The Theatre by Numbers

Auditorium

The Devonport Playhouse's auditorium seats 311; 205 in the stalls and 106 in the circle. There are spaces for wheelchairs at the back of the stalls, with a lift offering step free access into the building. (Please note that his has a weight limit of 200kg and is only available for manual wheelchairs).

Stage

The main stage is approx 30ft by 12ft. The upper stage 24ft by 9ft 6. The Playhouse is unique by having a split level stage area.

One interesting feature of the Devonport Playhouse is that, like the Drum, The Barbican Theatre and the Wharf, the stage has no permanent proscenium arch, which enables companies to experiment and be inventive with productions.

In 2021, during the Development, the stage went under major renovations to upgrade equipment used for lighting, sound, side stage and stage manager area. This work has future proofed the Playhouse for years to come and maximised the space we have at the Playhouse. There is an ample side and back stage area at the Devonport Playhouse for crew and props with access to the stage for performers from both sides, both corners of the rear and from both sides of the auditorium.

Backstage

Entering from the stage door, there are five dressing rooms at the Devonport Playhouse with restroom facilities. All dressing rooms have a sound feed from the stage.
